Evensong for the Second Sunday in Advent

This liturgy will occur on December 8 and will begin our regular Evensong schedule that will happen the second Sunday of each month at 4PM.

During December the Church observes Advent, the liturgical season of preparation for the coming of Christ. The readings slated for this Evensong encourage us to mentally and spiritually prepare for Christ among us and the “New Jerusalem” that his presence will bring.

St. Luke’s Festival Choir will offer several pieces composed by our own musicians, including Jason Yannuzzi’s two-art Preces and Responses, Terry Heisey’s setting of Psalm 114, as well as Yannuzzi’s setting of Psalm 115 and his “Etude Canticles” (Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis). Additionally we will offer two anthems by Malcolm Archer: “Prayer for the Blessing of Light” as well as “And I Saw a New Heaven.”

The December Evensong will be one of our “contemplative” style liturgies and will occur in the Auditorium with the Choir and Congregation sat in the round, and will feature the Parish’s Moller Tracker Organ.

This worship service is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken.
